Standard

An English pilot wrecks on the coast. Yabushige has a barbarian. Toranaga is still in Osaka. The Anjin title is not yet earned.

Toranaga takes Blackthorne out of Osaka. Mariko is assigned to translate. Ishido holds the castle.

Through Broken to the Fist, Blackthorne is bound to Toranaga and cannot simply sail home. Mariko is the bridge. Yabushige is still playing both sides.

The series is succession politics with a foreign catalyst. Blackthorne's ship and knowledge are prizes. Mariko's marriage to Buntaro and her faith are already pressure. Toranaga's patience is a weapon. Later-season battle names are not this pack.

Leaving Osaka with a barbarian is Toranaga buying time. Mariko's assignment is duty, not romance. Ishido still has the castle.

Key events (pre-cutoff)
